Description

The Intermezzo by Paula Szalit (1886–1920) represents the extraordinary participation in the international concert arena of Polish Jewish virtuosos—the likes of Edward Woff, Karol Tausig, Ignacy Friedman, Maurycy Rosenthal, Wanda Landowska, Felicja Blumental, Artur Rubinstein, and Mieczysław Horszowski, to mention just some of the pianists flourishing between the early 19th and late 20th centuries. Szalit, a brilliant pianist from Drohobycz, who died in Lwów before reaching the age of 35, was only 14 years old when she composed the Intermezzo—a little gem of extraordinary beauty.
